I finally got around to going through and posting all of the other snapshots from ARVO 2023 in New Orleans.  These images in the gallery below, and in the image of Selena, Taylor, Becca and Crystal above, are in addition to the visiting with Kristen Nwanyanwu, Brittany Carr, Michael Redmond, Rob Hufnagel, and the unfortunately too brief visit with Pete Williams. I wished I had more time to visit with friends and colleagues at ARVO, but the existential crisis from the constant search for grant funding, even while at a meeting simply wears on one and sucks up all the available extra time one might have for conversation.

A refactoring is necessary, as I do miss time spent with colleagues, talking science, and all the innumerable other things in life.  I’ve been thinking about friends and colleagues who are no longer with us like Jerry Lutty who passed away a couple of years ago.  Jerry was the best of us, and I always enjoyed seeing him and visiting with him at various meetings around the world. We rarely spoke of science at those meetings, but those moments were catalysts for science discussions at other times and to help promote the scientific careers of others.  There is so much good done by some folks who go largely unrecognized, but who’s participation in our communities are crucial for the culture that their presence helps cultivate.
