Liyun Zhang‘s works at Johns Hopkins on molecular mechanisms of retinal degeneration and therapeutic approaches to identify neuroprotectants.  I am a huge advocate for neuroprotectants and approaches that can slow the course of disease. If we can slow cell death enough, people die from old age before they go blind. Even a 10% reduction in cell death rates gives people years of vision preservation, so this was a fun conversation.

We also got to talk about her time at Peking University and places to eat around that campus that I went to when I was in Beijing and I am always happy to talk about food.  It was a fun conversation about all of these things, family, and life in the Baltimore area that I look forward to revisiting at some point soon.
