I ran out to Washington DC a couple of weeks ago to attend and present at the RPB @RPB_org Vision Funders Conference. It was a phenomenal gathering of all the people involved in funding or advocating for vision research, and I am grateful to Brian Hofland and RPB for asking me to present for the vision research community at this year’s conference, and for Diane Bovenkamp @DianeB1000 from Bright Focus @_BrightFocus to moderate the session that I presented in. The next couple of years are going to be harder for vision science given the spending caps in the current budget, and any and all advocacy that we can get for vision research will be critical.

Unfortunately, I did not have much time to see the sights, or even meet up with friends there as this was a fly in, present, and fly out kind of thing. I was able to quickly meet up with Crystal over a beer in downtown DC, and then with Eileen for coffee before heading back to the airport. And once again, I missed peak bloom on the cherry trees in DC by a week. I’ve been trying to hit peak bloom in DC for two decades now, and I’ve never been able to pull it off.
