One of the things I like about Germany is that they do like their automobiles.  Just about everywhere I go, there are French cars like the Citroen CX above, to German cars, to Italian cars, and a general appreciation for automotive culture in general. One of the things that surprised me was a great little museum called Classic-Remise Berlin that is actually a collection of businesses that deal with classic automobile repair, maintenance and sales, among other features. I’ve never seen a business model like this, but would love to see it propagate to other places like America where people could also use it as an automotive storage area, or shared garage resources for automotive enthusiasts. There are a few “car club” facilities being built around America, but a survey of their websites suggests they are primarily storage facilities designed around some sales and social clubs, rather than having any service or repair associated with them which limits the enthusiast crowd somewhat I would think to a very particular, higher end, newer car market. That is not to say that they did not have some very high end cars at the place in Berlin, because they certainly did. But there was a delightful mix of cars from around the world and across time that was represented there. How cool would it be to have car storage, along with some shared garage facilities, so that you could do some of your own work on your automobiles?

  1. Love the photos! I plan to visit Berlin (again) in August, seems like a good tip.
Btw, have you been in the Neon Museum in Berlin (Buchstabenmuseum)? It’s small but worth a visit.
