Why is all the >100 year old concrete in the city sidewalks crack-free and in excellent shape, while the modern concrete is cracked out and falling apart?

  1. It’s due to concrete quality and additives. According to concrete workers I have talked to, today it’s a lot of ash while in the olden days more rock/river stone was mixed. I’ve been documenting the stamps in concrete sidewalks in south Minneapolis all summer. Oldest so far is 1942.
