Contrails in the sky define a period in Earth history, starting in the 1940s and continuing on until now. There is a proposal to limit high altitude contrails. and their subsequent environmental impact of trapping heat as opposed to the cooling effect of lower clouds, by dynamically altering airplane altitude, preventing contrail formation.  This might result in limiting contrails or even eliminating them, bringing a close to the “Contrail Period” in Earth history.
