I had the great honor of sitting down with Zhuo-Hua Pan the other day in my office to talk science.  Zhuo-Hua Pan was the *first* person to implement optogenetics in tissues and I remember the very first time I saw his work at ARVO.  I remember thinking that it was the coolest thing I saw that year, but as a therapeutic intervention to cure blindness, I did not imagine that it could generate enough signal to actually propagate signals out of the retina to brain. I was wrong.

I’m looking forward to continuing our conversation and an emerging collaboration, exploring the integration of optogenetics into neural circuitry.
