Happy Thanksgiving, 2016.  My mantra, particularly this year is to focus on the many blessings that surround us.  I hope that you too can be appreciative of the good that surrounds us in the people and the small blessings that we so easily overlook.

I am grateful for H and our family.

I am grateful for morning coffee and people to share that ritual with.

I am grateful that I can photograph and document life around me as a constant reminder of why I am involved in vision research which leads me to my next statement of thanks…  I am grateful that I can get up each day and go to a job that I love with a wonderful team of people that challenge me and help do the work of exploration that helps to understand and to heal.

I am grateful for the taxpayers in the United States who fund this research and all the research being carried out by hardworking and dedicated scientists, interested in discovery.

I am thankful for a roof over my head, food on my table and the appreciation of the same.  We don’t spend enough time as a society thinking about the food we consume or how it is procured or the infrastructure required to maintain our lives from the sewer and clean water to how electricity flows when we hit a switch.

I am grateful for the animals in my life… our pets and the pets and working animals of family and of close friends make us better human beings.

I am grateful for all my friends who help make life more interesting, challenging and loving.

I am grateful for all those around me that care to make art through photography, media, paints, glass and more.  You help inspire me and keep perspective.

Thank you.
