Nanoparticles

Animated-retinal-particles

We need more animated gifs in science.  Therefore, this is a fun animated gif of nanoparticles on a transmission electron microscope image that has been put through a narrow angle tilt series (like tomography) to look at the 3D location on the tissue section.

You can see the faint outline of mitochondria up top and the darker large shapes underneath the nanoparticles are pigment granules in the retinal pigment epithelium.

  1. This might not be a very scientific observation on my part. While I pulled up this blog entry, Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” came up in my iTunes and it is very much in sync with this. :)

Do you have any science in sync with Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon or do I need to stick with Wizard of Oz?
