A couple gifts from the universe flew in next to me while cleaning up the yard today.  This pair of downy woodpeckers (Picoides pubescent) flew through along with chickadees, robins, quail, jays and flickers and some of them hung around long enough for me to get my camera and make some pictures.  The female downy woodpecker seemed to mind my presence less than the male, below and happily plucked small insects from our trees while I moved around to get images.

Another item of note: Mirrorless cameras like the Fuji X-mount cameras make far less noise than traditional SLR cameras where the mirror is flapping around and therefore make far better cameras for birding.
