May 2011 Photowalk UVU Carshow

We held the May 2011 PhotowalkingUtah event down at the UVU carshow at Thanksgiving Point this morning. We had a great turnout for 6:30am with 21 people that showed for one of the first dry days we’ve had in many days here on the Wasatch Front.

In conjunction with the carshow, there was a swapmeet held just outside the gates with people selling a variety of wares including some rare Edelbrock and Offenhauser manifolds and carburetors, some Studebaker parts, old fuel filler doors, parts appropriate for rat rods and these bottles above that caught the morning sunrise.

Other vehicles present were more for transportation like this old ’60s Chevy Suburban. I loved the patina and color of this old former US Forest Service vehicle that looked as if it had the original paintjob from the 1960s that was wearing through.

Some of the paint schemes were fantastic colors including this *very* orange hot rod whose orange reminded me of some of the reactions we used to “perform” with potassium perchlorate.

Old Chevy’s including this ’57 were plentiful.

Other Chevrolet products were also plentiful including Corvettes of all vintages including the ’60 that the grille image came from and a 64 coupe that the turquoise images came from. My uncle Larry has a wonderful old ’59 Corvette that I always enjoyed the shape of along with its chrome yellow color.

One of the satisfying things about car shows is that you get to see some nice engineering and talent in fabrication. This weld was on a little custom ride made by Chris Davenport who has a rather impressive shop in Orem, Salt Flats Speed Shop. I had a good time looking pretty carefully at his handiwork and came away impressed. I’d really be interested to see what else Chris is up to in his shop some time.

Some classic automobiles were present as well including this gorgeous Packard.

This old Willys business coupe was also present with a great shape. I’d love to see how this project turns out.

Motorcycles were also present in large numbers with new makes shown by BMW/Triumph of Salt Lake as well as some other “new” bobber models that I must admit were pretty cool.

Likely my favorite car of the car show was a slammed 1964 Lincoln Continental with suicide doors painted in matte black. This car spoke to me *LOUDLY* and were it for sale, it likely would have found its way to my driveway. It was so unbelievably cool in all the right ways.

The full size group photo can be seen here on my Flickrstream. We’ll look forward to seeing you at next months point and shoot camera photowalk at Wheeler Farm (date to be announced soon).

  1. Those are very nice pictures. I like the way you focus on the small parts and details instead of taking pictures of the whole car. It makes the photos more interesting than the usual ones. The chrome grill is the best of all. Good job!
