Pine Siskin

This little pine siskin (Carduelis pinus) was dueling it out with other pine siskins over a bird seed offering outside of Driggs, Idaho. While pine siskins are very social birds, they can also be tremendously aggressive and I am always amazed at how dinosaur like even the little birds are and how assertive they can be in defending territory, food, or whatever. These birds are still commonly seen up in Idaho and Wyoming, but Robert tells me that it has been some time since he has seen them here in Salt Lake City.
