We just experienced a major snow storm here in Salt Lake City, followed by an extensive power outage. Our power was out for approximately 30 hours, but we were lucky as there were some folks (including Maggie) who were out of power for over three days. We simply used the outdoors as a refrigeration source for most of our goods in the fridge, used candles and Cyalume chemical light sticks for light and layers to keep warm. It is surprising how much we rely on electricity and it is precisely these moments that serve as tacit reminders of how reliant we’ve become on it.
