Effect of shape and coating of a subretinal prosthesis on its integration with the retina Although it was accepted a couple of months ago, we recently published a manuscript in Experimental Eye Research in collaboration with our friends at Stanford, Alex, Phil, Michael and Daniel. This paper essentially examines the effects of various coatings and geometries of bionic implants on their ability to integrate with the retina. These approaches are critical to making bionic implants work and part of the problem is figuring out how to get stable electrodes near to the cells that need to be stimulated with a minimum of cell death and reactivity of the neural substrate.
