The Shadow Knows

Camera: Apple iPhone X

Aperture: f/1.8
Focal Length: 28mm equivalent

I am absolutely impressed by the iPhone X camera. This image was made of my shadow in branches in the light of a full moon, something that not that long ago was only something an SLR could do.  The sensor tech and optics in the iPhone X is only part of it though.  What I’ve been seeing is that the image processing that Apple is doing is an impressive contribution.  What is also remarkable is how smartphones have become ubiquitous imaging devices.  I wrote about this back in 2012, but the intervening 5-6 years are seeing this manifested.  The tech I want to see integrated into smartphones is almost here.  We are seeing elements of it, but there is so much more to go in terms of computational photography.  Apple seems to understand this on some level which encourages me.
