I had a wonderful talk with Adam Hantman (@AdamHantman) at HHMI Janelia Farm about science, mentors that changed our lives (His: Edward Perl), and the neuroscience and connectomics of the spinal cord. We were talking about connectomics of the spinal cord, specifically because there is no connectomics study of the spinal cord. We agree that it needs to happen and that it should be us that does it. Looking forward to talking with you more about this Adam.
Also, cool side story: I was looking at an old school electrode puller on Adam’s desk while we were talking about Ed Perl and how he was a faculty member at the one time, internationally esteemed Physiology Dept. at the University of Utah. Adam noted that the electrode puller was Ed’s, and upon closer inspection had “U of U” inscribed into the equipment. These pieces of equipment were merely that at the time, but history has made them artifacts, that hold great historical and sentimental value now.
