Happy Halloween, 2016!
The above image and one of the images below was made with the Fuji X-Pro2. However, the iPhone 7 also showed up the other day and I’ve been playing with the new Portrait Mode with computationally rendered bokeh and the Halloween pumpkins made for a quick comparison shoot.
Which one is which? Its pretty easy to tell actually, yet the bokeh on the iPhone 7 as you can see, works pretty well and renders almost optically. However, it has a tough time around fine details, such as the pumpkin stem seen in the pumpkin on the left and in gaps giving an asymmetry of sorts.
I’ve had a bokeh post bouncing around in my head for a couple of months, but have not had much of a chance to think about it, much less put it together. I’m hoping a little time around the Thanksgiving break to test out a number of different camera/lens setups.
