Alex Butler came to the lab right out of high school and worked hard to contribute to the science.  When Alex, a then 18 year old asked me if she could present at our big annual vision research conference, I told her that if she got an abstract accepted, she could go.  To my amazement, Alex put together abstracts two years in a row at the 2012 ARVO and the 2013 ARVO that were awarded with platform talks which she delivered, representing the lab well.  Alex has now graduated and is off onto the next phase in her life and we miss both her intelligence and humor as one of the smartest and funniest people around.

Best of luck Alex. Do stay in touch.
