This portrait of Noah Nelson (@nooneelseinhere) is another in the In My Office series*, a small personal project to make portraits of people that visit my office.

Noah was a high school student when this portrait was made last September, just before he started at CalTech.  He has also just completed an amazing internship at HHMI Janelia Farm after work in our lab set the stage for that opportunity.  While here, Noah did some amazing work that seasoned PhD computer scientists told us would take a year or more and many hundreds of thousands of dollars.  Noah said: “I think we can do that with Blender and get quantitative data from it” or something like that.  He then set out and delivered with some amazing animations and set the groundwork for extracting additional data from our connectomics projects with his work.

I can’t wait to see where Noah goes and what he does.  But I am sure it will be exciting and I’ll look forward to it.
