Portrait: Barn Owl With Fuji 10-24mm

Barn Owl

Camera: Fuji X-T1
Exposure: 1/90
Aperture: f/4.0
Focal Length: 24mm (35mm full frame equivalent)
ISO: 1600

Owls represent my favorite avians.  At least seeing an owl represents the first time I remember being completely overwhelmed by how amazing birds can be.  In that case it was a great grey owl (Strix nebulosaup in Montana, but this bird, a barn owl (Tyto alba) made for a lovely portrait in a decidedly controlled environment.

The lens for this image was Fuji’s 10-24 f/4 R OIS zoom which represents an impressive optical solution that I’ve used for architectural work before, but for photographs of birds in a more natural setting, I can’t wait for Fuji to release their new super zoom, rumored to be a 120-400mm lens some time next year.  Also, a teaser:  There will be more photos of birds coming soon, made with Fuji’s new 50-140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR in the next couple of days.
