Moon and Venus convergence





This is a shot taken the night of February 27th from our backyard of the convergence between the Moon and Venus. It is digiscoped with a Canon SD800 and a Zeiss spotting scope, so the image and exposure is not SLR quality. However, it makes for an inexpensive 500-800mm equivalent. One of these days, I'll be able to afford a proper 500mm SLR lens that is fast enough for birding, but that can also capture images of this focal length equivalence.

Venus was particularly bright that evening and as Maria noted, both are actually crescents. Paradoxically, Venus is actually at its brightest when it is a crescent, because it can only be a crescent relative to us when it is closest to the Earth.
