Portland, Oregon





H and I travelled up to Portland, Oregon for a quick trip over the weekend for a little bit of business and a family visit. It was a nice break from the triple digit summer heat we've been living through in Salt Lake City and flying over the West revealed through all the wildfires just how much damage the heat is doing. I must have counted a dozen fires or more in-between Salt Lake City and Portland before we climbed into the clouds before decending into the rain of the Pacific Northwest.


















While there, rather than browse for arts and crafts, we decided to skip the Portland Saturday Market in favor of the Gresham Farmers Market to better stock up on produce for a little party we were hosting for H. I have to say that the produce we saw was beautiful and if I'd had more time, I would have photographed just about every stand we came across for fruits, vegetables and flowers, but had to satisfy myself with the blueberries at top and the rhubarb, always a personal favorite. I love well run farmers markets with beautiful fresh produce as they serve as reminders to decrease our carbon footprints and buy local products when they are available and in season.












The party was a simple, small affair with a meal of homemade BBQ chicken pizza and a dessert of chocolate cake with pink frosting and fresh strawberry ice-cream. Mmmmmmm.... tasty. Thanks S and S for the food and company.







We had to make this trip to Portland a quick one to get back to work responsibilities which for me at least are stacking up with upcoming conferences to present at, travel for experimental collaborations and a building wave of work that needs to be accomplished.






Oh, and given that this is the Pacific Northwest, what would a trip up here without an image of a slug?
